Women's Day is celebrated every year on March 8th. It is very important to introduce it to our children but also to celebrate it! Like every world day, International Women's Day can be an occasion for children to learn something new but also to teach them life lessons!

This day is more relevant than ever, and it is a good occasion to talk about it with our children, regardless of their gender, to talk about the importance and reason for this day.

When did it start?

Women's Day has been celebrated every year for a century now. The first gathering for International Women's Day was held in 1911. Every year, the day is celebrated and serves as a catalyst for action to accelerate gender equality.

Who is celebrating?

International Women's Day is not celebrated by a group, a nation, an organization - but collectively for all women in the world. The day celebrates the social, cultural, economic, and political achievements of women.

Why celebrate Women's Day?

Women's Day is important for all sexes. It promotes independence, human rights, respect. They are elements from which every child can benefit. By teaching our children about this day, we give them the power to adopt elements such as capacity, taking inspiration from great women personalities’, helping them grow up to become dynamic and conscientious people!

How can we spend Women's Day with our children?

It is important to talk to our children about the existence of this day. The reasons that began to exist but also the reason it continues to exist to this day. Kids love stories. Therefore, we can use stories of great women and tell them about their achievements! Thus, they will understand very easily and in a uniquely beautiful way about women and their rights! Such stories can be found in The Wonder Room.

One of our favorite book series full of stories is "Little People, Big Dreams" which you can find here.

Another thing we can do with our children for the day is to watch a movie with them! Many movies with little heroines, in addition to being a lot of fun, teach lessons and inspire with their stories. Their favorite movies can be perfect for Women's Day! For example, the movie "Moana" is a very good choice for the occasion, as it follows the goal of a little islander, who is determined to fulfill her destiny and save the island. The popular movies "Frozen" starring Elsa & Anna are also good choices. The sisters through the movies show that they can do everything, follow their dreams and stay united despite the… dangers. Also older ones, such as Pocahontas and Mulan, can be a creative way to spend Women's Day!

A beautiful and creative activity you can do with your children is to make and give a card to a loved one: for the grandmother, the teacher, or the psychologist! You can make the card from scratch by cutting cardboard and decorating it with drawings and stickers. Inside you can help them write a message to the woman who inspires them! You can choose the right materials for crafts from The Wonder Room by clicking here.

Celebrate Women's Day this year with your children with beautiful activities! Do not forget that every world day is an opportunity to learn something new. Learning can be fun by doing activities with them!

Happy Women's Day!
