WONDERWALL

Anna Martinou is a life coach a co-founder of Fykiada Retreats a brand that organises Luxury Yoga Retreats in Kythnos, Mykonos and Koufonisia inviting world-class yoga names, like Chelsey Korus and Οysho Ambassador, Alessandra Oram and gives a new perspective in the health & wellness sector, set on the Greek Islands.

Moments before their first retreat of the season in Mykonos, featuring acclaimed ashtanga teacher Laruga, we asked Anna to share with us her daily routine with Nicholas: her almost nine-month old son who invaded her life!

1. Can you describe a daily routine that combines Fykiada with Nicholas?

We are early birds and start our day around 6.30am. After Nicholas drinks his milk, there follows cuddling and stretching in bed till 8am: we both refuse to get out of bed earlier than that. Around 9am it's ‘juice and fruit paste’ o’clock where Nicholas comes up with the most inventive ways to apply fruit paste on everything whilst listening to the ‘Lazy Dragon’ tune. The ‘little crabs’ song is our ‘Well done Anthem!’ for making it till here. From 10am till 4pm I make genuine efforts to focus on Fykiada Retreats work, which includes but is not limited to emails, collabs and a fair bit of social media. In the meantime Nicholas spends his time crawling all around the flat, in and out of his magic carpet territory, under the thoughtful eye of his nanny. In the afternoon we take our daily stroll in the park, his current favourite is the slide and mine the bench! Our fav stop is at the grocery store for fresh fruit and veg. Nicholas loves leaves so we always collect souvenirs from the trees on our way back home. Evenings are spent on the magic carpet for non-stop playing and at 7pm it's time for yoga. As I do my daily practice, Nicholas crawls all around me! I think his best posture is downward facing dog because he can look at my face and pull my hair out. Around 8.30pm our sleep routine prep starts: we push the projector button which makes whale sounds and features crabs and fish swimming on our ceiling, followed by a bubble bath! By 9pm we are already tucked into bed, Nicholas first, and I follow soon after.

2. What would you advise yourself or other mums, before becoming a parent?

Self-confidence I’d say. Motherhood comes with a magical ability of simply ‘knowing’. All I’d say is trust yourself and listen to your inner voice. I have also found it very important to take care of oneself with whatever way works for each and every one of you. Asking for help and building a support network for all sorts of practical help (grandparents, partners, friends, nannies etc)
